Spanish reports claim that Cristiano Ronaldo has spent €45,000 (£36,000) on having a cryotherapy ice chamber installed in his house to improve his conditioning.
The bath at temperatures of around minus-160 degrees is designed to stimulate muscle recovery and help build up strength.
The Daily Mail adds that the Portuguese forward is already feeling the benefit of two three-minute sessions a week.
According to Spanish newspaper El Mundo (translated by the Mail), Ronaldo first discovered the practice in the local gym before installing it in his La Finca home:
Ronaldo is now reliant on deliveries of liquid nitrogen canisters to his home to keep the system topped up. And if the liquid-nitrogen man lets him down he can always go back to using the local gym’s facility where €550 (£465) buys 10 private sessions.
Ronaldo is not the first to use such equipment—former Real Madrid hero Raul also took advantage of cryotherapy, while Franck Ribery was also snapped in an unforgettable picture having treatment during the 2012 European Championships.
How long it will be before we see Ronaldo add a similar image on Twitter remains to be seen.
